Uzbekistan reveals data on foreign currency sold by country's citizens to banks

The citizens of Uzbekistan sold foreign currency to banks worth $3.7 billion from January through October 2020, which is 25 percent or $744 million more compared to the same period of 2019, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said, Trend reports citing Podrobno.uz.

At the same time, the volume of purchases of foreign currency by individuals amounted to $3.3 billion, showing a growth 2.7 times year on year.

In the same period of last year, the above figure was $1.2 billion.

The bulk of these funds 79 percent was purchased in cash through currency exchange offices, while the share of alternative methods (online conversion, automated exchange ATMs) amounted to 21 percent or $687 million.
