World Bank presents program to support entrepreneurship of women in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan and World Bank discussed the development and implementation of a pilot project worth $2.73 million to support entrepreneurship of women and youth in rural areas of Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing information service of the parliament of Uzbekistan.

An online presentation of the World Bank on the Entrepreneurship and Welfare Support Program for Gender Integration prepared for the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality of Uzbekistan was held.

A presentation was made by the Chairperson of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis (parliament) on Women and Gender Equality Malika Kadirkhanova on the work done on gender equality in Uzbekistan, including on improving the legal framework, increasing socio-political activity and support for women, providing them with legal and social assistance and other issues.

The World Bank presentation focused on empowering women in rural development programs in Uzbekistan.

In particular, the World Bank presented the development and implementation of a pilot project worth $2.73 million to support the entrepreneurship of women and youth in rural areas, expand their economic opportunities. It was noted that the project will be implemented in the districts of Fergana and Jizzakh regions from 2021 to 2024.
