Uzbekistan, China expand mutual trade despite COVID-19

Uzbekistan and China were actively expanding mutual trade in 2020 despite the coronavirus pandemic, Trend reports with reference to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in China.

On February 24, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Le Yucheng at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Beijing.

The parties exchanged views on key issues of the development of Uzbek-Chinese relations, reaffirmed their mutual readiness to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership based on the principles of mutual trust, respect, benefit and consideration of the interests of the two countries.

It was stressed at the at the meeting that the telephone talks held in 2020 between President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of China Xi Jinping gave a new impetus and dynamics to the development of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries in the context of a pandemic.

It was also stated that, despite the pandemic, in 2020, Uzbekistan and China were actively expanding mutual trade, and also intensified interaction in the investment sphere.

"Interregional cooperation and cultural and humanitarian exchanges were strengthened, especially in the field of medicine and health care," the message said.

Following the talks, the parties confirmed their readiness to make joint practical efforts to further strengthen contacts at the highest level, designed to help ensure that 2021 becomes a breakthrough year in the history of Uzbek-Chinese relations.

In addition, the priority of the practical implementation of the agreements reached between the heads of the two states was emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan’s import from China in January 2021 in value terms amounted to $147 million, while exports from this country during the reported period amounted to $337.2 million.
