Uzbekistan’s commodity exchange notes profit increase in 2020

Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange (UZEX) ended 2020 with a net profit of 94.8 billion soums ($9 million), Trend reports with reference to the single portal of corporate information in Uzbekistan.

According to the portal, the commodity exchange increased its profit by 13.1 billion soums ($1.2 million) compared to 2019.

It is reported that the assets of the commodity exchange at the end of 2020 amounted to almost 2.2 trillion soums ($210 million), while accounts payable slightly exceeded 2 trillion soums ($191 million).

In addition, during the past year, the joint-stock company also placed deposits with Trust Bank totaling 89 billion soums ($8.5 million).

Earlier it was reported that the turnover of the commodity exchange in 2020 amounted to 10 percent of the country's GDP. In February 2021, more than 800,000 participants were registered on the commodity exchange, earning 40.4 percent more than in 2019.

Also, at the end of last year, forward contracts worth almost 1.4 trillion soums ($133 million) were carried out at the Uzbek commodity exchange for the first time. It is noted that entrepreneurs were able to sell 17 types of products before delivery.

The portal also reports that direct transactions for almost 4.3 trillion soums ($410 million) were closed on the public procurement portal in 2020. Due to the specifics of the proposals, customers managed to save about 1 trillion soums ($95 million).
