Uzbekistan taking additional measures to develop karakul sheep breeding

The Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan has been instructed to allocate 100 billion soums ($9.5 million) to Turon Bank until February 15, 2021 in order to further develop the sphere of karakul breeding, Trend reports referring to Norma information and legal portal.

According to the decree of the head of Uzbekistan dated April 14, 2021, amendments and additions were made to the February current year's decree of the President on additional measures for the further development of the Karakul breeding sphere.

Thus, in order to further develop the Karakul farming sector, the Ministry of Finance was instructed to allocate 100 billion soums ($9.5 million) to Turon Bank by February 15, 2021 - 50 billion soums by May 1 and 50 billion soums ($4.7 million) by August 1 at the expense of temporarily available funds.

It is noted that Turon Bank will provide loans to members of Korakulchilik Republican Association for the purchase of sheep from pedigree karakul farms, the creation of enterprises for the processing of export-oriented karakul and karakul skins, the organization of feed shops, the construction of new ones, the repair and modernization of existing water intake facilities.

In addition, the document says that until January 1, 2022, goods (work, services) and vehicles purchased as part of projects for the development of karakul breeding are exempt from customs duties.

Also, in the near future, 14,000 hectares of land will be allocated for the production of feed for the Karakul-breeding clusters of the country.

It is reported that the largest area of fodder lands for Karakul sheep will be occupied in two districts of Navoi region – Novbakhorsky (1,500 hectares) and Karmaninsky (1,200 hectares). Karakul breeders of this region will receive an additional 3,900 hectares of fodder lands from Karakalpakstan Republic (2,990 hectares) and Bukhara region (2,650 hectares).

In addition, Until January 1, 2024, the land tax rate established for pastures permanently owned by the Committee for the Development of Sericulture and Karakul Breeding, and pastures leased to the Committee by the State Committee for Forestry, is reduced by 50 percent.

A subsidy will be provided for each embryo of a purebred sheep and a goat, including a Karakul sheep, imported from foreign countries, in the amount of 400,000 soums ($38) at the expense of the republican budget.

Moreover, starting from April 1, 2021, members of the Association are allowed to export a part not exceeding 50 percent of their imported livestock of sheep in the form of raw meat.
