Number of mortgage loans issued by Uzbek commercial banks increased

Over the past four years and three months of 2021, commercial banks in Uzbekistan have issued mortgage loans in the amount of 27.5 trillion soums ($2.6 billion) to 232,400 people, Trend reports referring to the press service of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

According to the CBU, as a result, the balance on mortgage loans in the first quarter of this year amounted to 29.4 trillion soums ($2.8 billion), which is almost four times more than in 2016.

Until April 19, 2020 and 2021, under the new procedure, mortgage loans were issued for a total of 2.6 trillion soums ($251 million) to 12,138 citizens - 1.7 trillion soums ($166 million) in 2020 and 891 billion soums ($85 million) in 2021.

It is noted that during this period mortgage loans in the amount of 743.1 billion soums ($71 million) were issued to 3,370 people in need of better housing conditions under the new procedure.

Earlier it was reported that banks issued 77,200 loans to Uzbeks in the amount of 9.1 trillion soums ($865 million), which is 1.1 trillion soums ($104 million) more than in 2019.

As of January 1, 2021, 65.8 billion soums ($6.2 million) of mortgage loan subsidies were paid to 2,659 Uzbek citizens from the state budget. In particular, 64.9 billion soums ($6.17 million) were allocated to 2,395 citizens to cover part of the initial contribution and interest, in rural areas to 264 citizens - 0.9 billion soums ($85,572) to cover part of the interest.
