An agreement has been reached on the coordination and adoption of the protocol of the first round of official negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and South Korea, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.
The first round of official negotiations via videoconferencing on the draft intergovernmental Free Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and South Korea ended.
The main negotiator from Uzbekistan was Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Badriddin Abidov, from South Korea - Director-General for Free Trade Agreements of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Yang Gi-Wook.
It is reported that from 26 to 28 April, the parties held detailed discussions on five working groups, including on trade in goods, technical barriers to trade, rules of origin, customs procedures, and trade facilitation, as well as legal and institutional issues.
During the negotiations, the specialists exchanged views on the main areas of trade cooperation, studied data on the trade regimes of the two countries, and also agreed on priority areas for continuing discussions.
S. Korean side expressed the readiness to fulfill all the agreements reached in the negotiation process, as well as to continue discussions in the working order during the inter-sessional period.
At the same time, Abidov noted that the official start of the negotiation process on the Free Trade Agreement was announced on January 28 during a virtual summit between the Presidents of Uzbekistan and South Korea. In this regard, and in accordance with the instructions of the leaders of our countries, the main negotiators carried out active work to prepare for the negotiation process.
As a result of the event, the parties reached an agreement on agreeing and adopting the protocol of the first round of official negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Uzbekistan and South Korea, which reflected joint events and specific deadlines for their implementation in the inter-sessional period.
