BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4
By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:
One million tons of cement worth $50.5 million was imported to Uzbekistan from January through April 2021, which is 515,100 tons more compared to the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.
According to the committee, Uzbekistan during the reporting period mainly imported cement from Kazakhstan – 498,900 tons, Kyrgyzstan – 278,500 tons and Tajikistan – 234,700 tons.
In March, it was reported that the authorities of Uzbekistan canceled the customs duty on cement imports, which amounts to 30 percent. The discount is valid until October 1.
It is expected that the zeroing of the duty will prevent the rise in prices for building materials, which, as a rule, leads to higher prices for other goods. It is noted that a significant growth in construction is expected in the coming months compared to last year.
Earlier State Statistics Committee reported that the share of cement production in Uzbekistan from January through March 2021 increased by 14.1 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to the committee, cement enterprises in Uzbekistan produced 2.2 million tons of cement during the reporting period. It was noted that the largest share in the total volume of cement production in the country falls on the share of enterprises in the Navoi region - 41 percent.
At the same time, the share of cement production in enterprises of the Tashkent region and Fergana region amounted to 40.5 percent and 9.6 percent respectively.
