Uzbekistan entered the top 10 countries in the world for gold mining, Trend reports referring to Forbes rating, based on data from the World Gold Council.

It is noted that over the past year, Uzbekistan for the first time produced more than 101.6 tons of gold. Due to this result, Uzbekistan was awarded the eight line of the rating table, taking the place of Peru.

Forbes emphasized that the main source of gold mining for Uzbekistan is the Muruntau mine, the world's largest open-pit gold mine in terms of area. Muruntau also contains huge deposits of turquoise and arsenic. The publication admits that the mine is the world's largest gold reserve.

It was also noted that the Central Bank, the only exporter of gold in the country, first disclosed delivery figures at the end of March. At the same time, it turned out that the least volume of sold gold was registered in 2012 - 10 tons, while the largest volume was noted in 2019 – 110 tons.

State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan reported that Uzbekistan has exported gold for the first time since September last year. According to the committee, in May 2021 gold in Uzbekistan was sold for almost $1.2 billion, which had a positive effect on the country's foreign trade turnover.

Earlier it was reported when Uzbekistan will resume gold exports. It was noted, Uzbekistan was expecting a peak in gold prices.
