Trend:

The United States USAID Agency for International Development identified renewable energy zones in Uzbekistan to boost the development of the country’s renewable energy sector, Communications Specialist at USAID Mission to Uzbekistan Sanobar Khudaybergenova told Trend.

According to her, USAID identified renewable energy (RE) zones that are optimized to provide low-cost electricity to the grid.

“More than 15 solar zones and more than 20 wind zones were identified, and three top-ranked zones in each category were recommended for development”, she said.

According to her, USAID worked in cooperation with Uzbek experts for the development of RE zones. “USAID worked hand-in-hand with local experts for effective knowledge transfer of the multi-criteria methodology, which includes all necessary considerations like high resource density, short distance to transmission and load centers, no overlap with environmentally sensitive areas and others”, Khudaybergenova said.

In addition, the communications specialist noted that these zones will be used by Uzbek authorities for RE projects. “The findings of our analysis resulted in the use of these zones by the Ministry of Energy for auctioning of sites for RE projects”, she said.
