BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 25. International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the government of Uzbekistan have agreed to a new ambitious strategy for 2023 – 2027 with an objective to invest in the resilience and productivity of 205,000 rural households, representing 1.2 million rural people, small-scale producers, women and youth, Country Program Assistant at IFAD Kaan Bulut told Trend.

“In a regional context of compounding crises, IFAD’s support will focus on improving access to competitive agricultural markets for farmers, scaling up innovation and strengthening resilience to climate change,” Bulut said.

According to him, IFAD plans to develop cooperation with Uzbekistan in three main aspects.

“First, increasing resilience and productivity of small-scale producers through sustainable interventions on natural resources, especially land and water,” he stated.

Second, improving access for small-scale producers to viable food systems and agricultural markets through greater competitiveness, innovation and enhanced business linkages, Bulut noted.

“Third, enhancing the enabling environment for inclusive rural transformation,” he said.
