BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 3. Uzbekistan ranked first in gold sales in January 2023, selling 12 tons of precious metal, Trend reports with reference to the report by the World Gold Council (WGC).
According to the WGC, the largest gold buyer, during the
reporting period, were
Türkiye – 23.3 tons, China – 14.9 tons, and Kazakhstan - 4
tons.
The WGC also notes that Uzbekistan ranked 15th in gold reserves during the first month of 2023 - about 384,000 tons.
In January 2023, Uzbekistan's exports of gold totaled $1.2 billion, which is an increase of 2 times, compared to the reporting period in 2022 ($586.6 million).
The state statistics committee of Uzbekistan noted that some 56.8 percent of the total export share accounts for gold exports.
Meanwhile, in 2022, Uzbekistan exported gold worth $4.1 billion, while the country’s total reserves amounted to $35.7 billion.
