BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Uzbekistan and Georgia eye boosting transport and logistic cooperation by expanding the use of the Baku-Tbilisi–Kars railroad, Trend reports via the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan.

The matter was discussed between Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili during the 9th meeting of the Uzbek-Georgian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

Speaking about transport and logistics cooperation, the parties discussed the potential of using the Black Sea port infrastructure of Georgia as well.

Throughout negotiations, besides the abovementioned matters, the parties touched upon questions of increasing the trade turnover up to $500 million in the nearest future.

Meanwhile, according to the latest data of the National Statistical Committee of Georgia, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Georgia reached $16.9 million from January through February 2023, decreasing by 23.8 percent, compared to the figure for the first two months of 2022 ($22.2 million).

The trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Georgia in 2022 amounted to $160.1 million, up by 39.6 percent, compared to 2021 ($114.6 million).

Following the meeting, the sides signed several bilateral documents, including a Protocol on the completion of bilateral negotiations on access to the market of goods and services between Georgia and Uzbekistan within the framework of the accession of Uzbekistan to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
