BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 28. Chinese "China Gezhouba Group Overseas Investment Co, Ltd" company will invest $1 billion in the construction of solar power plants in Uzbekistan, Trend reports via Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade.

On April 27 within the second Tashkent International Investment Forum (ТIIF-2023), the Chinese company and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade signed investments two agreements worth $500 million each for the construction of the plants.

The ministry says that two solar power plants with a total capacity of 500 MW each will be constructed in Uzbekistan’s Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions.

No further information about the start date of construction or the plant’s annual electricity generation was not provided.

Moreover, it should be noted that the energy sector of Uzbekistan is of great interest to Chinese companies.

Back in March 2023, Uzbekistan and some Chinese energy companies signed a memorandum of understanding on launching the construction of wind farms with a capacity of 1000 MW in the country’s Jizzakh region.

The memorandum was signed between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy with the following Chinese companies: “China Huadian Overseas Investments”, “China National Electric Engineering Company” (CNEEC), and “SANY Renewable Energy”.

According to the signed deal, “China Huadian Overseas Investments" will participate in the wind farm construction project as an investor, "CNEEC" — as a general contractor, while "SANY Renewable Energy" will supply wind turbines to Uzbekistan.
