BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. Uzbekistan exported some 12,800 tons of grapes worth $10.7 million from January through March 2023, which is an increase of 38.6 percent, compared to the same period in 2022, Trend reports via State Statistics Committee.
During the first quarter of 2023, Uzbekistan overall exported 217,600 tons of fruit and vegetables, decreasing by 41,000 tons compared to the figure for 3M2022 (258,600 tons).
Besides grapes, the largest share in the export fell on mug beans – 35,000 tons, followed by cabbage – 25,400 tons, dried grapes – 21,700 tons, tomato – 12,000 tons, prunes – 9,000 tons, pomegranate – 8,500 tons, and chili pepper –6,800 tons.
The main importers of Uzbek fruit and vegetables were Kazakhstan (67,900 tons), Russia (44,700 tons), China (39,600 tons), Kyrgyzstan (17,600 tons), Pakistan (12,800 tons), Afghanistan (7,600 tons), Türkiye (2,900 tons), Belarus (2,400 tons), and Iran (2,200 tons).
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan produced more than 1.7 million tons of grapes from January through December 2022, increasing by 3.9 percent, compared to the reporting period in 2021.
In 2022, Uzbekistan exported 318,900 tons of grapes worth $280.1 million during the corresponding period. This figure increased by 34.4 percent compared to the figure for last year. Some 24.7 percent of the export share fell on grape export (including dried ones).
