ACWA Power may construct 300 MW solar PV plant in Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power has been announced as the preliminary winner in the tender for the construction and operation of a 300 MW solar PV plant in the Guzar district of Uzbekistan's Kashkadarya region, Trend reports.

As the Energy Ministry of the country reported, the project, supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the "300 MW Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant Development and Consulting Services Program" (ADB Phase 2), attracted proposals from two international companies. The financial proposal opening revealed the following outcomes:

- "Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar" (UAE) offered 3.0000 US cents per kWh for solar electricity generated by the plant and 6.33 US dollars per MWh for the availability of the battery system.

- ACWA POWER-Saudi Listed Stock Company (Saudi Arabia) proposed 3.0518 US cents per kWh for solar electricity generated and 24.425 US dollars per MWh for the availability of the battery system.

While the tender evaluation process is underway, ACWA Power has been provisionally named the winner, with the company "Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar" as the reserve winner. The tender documents will undergo review and approval by the Tender Commission, along with ADB consultants in the coming days.

This tender, organized by the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan JSC, Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Committee for Competition Development and Consumer Rights Protection, aims to establish a 300 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in the Guzar district. Additionally, an energy storage system (battery) with a capacity of 75 MW for one hour will be incorporated into the project.

The winning investor, once finalized, will be responsible for designing, financing, and operating the solar power plant for a period of 25 years.
