BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27. The first container train has commenced its journey through Iran from the Chinese port of Xiamen to Uzbekistan's Sergeli station, Trend reports.
This significant development opens up new avenues for trade and economic cooperation between China and Uzbekistan, Uztemiryulkonteyner JSC, Uzbek transportation service provider, said.
The containers carrying household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and gas stoves are transported from China via sea to the port of Bandar Abbas and then enter Uzbekistan through Turkmenistan. They are loaded onto railway platforms at the Bandar Abbas port in Iran.
The route is being serviced by a train consisting of approximately 39/40-foot containers, and it is expected to arrive at Sergeli station in 14 days after departing from the port of Bandar Abbas.
Currently, the container train was scheduled to arrive in Tashkent on June 25. This new transportation link not only facilitates the movement of goods but also strengthens the connectivity and trade relations between China, Iran, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
Moreover, by the end of 2023, Uzbekistan, China and also Kyrgyzstan will take practical steps towards the construction of an international railway connecting those three countries. Currently, the economic foundations of the project have been prepared. Before the end of the year, the countries will take practical steps towards building the railway. On June 13, the first freight train traffic has been launched on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan multimodal transport corridor.
