UNDP, Uzbekistan talk issuance of green bonds

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is in talks with the Government of Uzbekistan on the issuance of green bonds, Trend reports.

The issue was discussed at the meeting between Ilhom Norkulov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, and the UNDP delegation headed by Resident Representative Matilda Dimovska.

The main objective of the meeting was to review and discuss the progress of joint projects. During the negotiations, areas of mutual interest were reviewed, including gender equality, green taxation, green budgeting, reconstruction and technical support of schools.

Both sides confirmed their intention to develop and strengthen their bilateral relations through active measures, recognizing the opportunities for expanding cooperation in various fields.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to hold several key meetings for a more detailed examination of the projects and to determine subsequent steps to achieve common goals.

Meanwhile, UNDP has launched a joint project with the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan on the development of green transportation. The project is funded by grants from the Global Environment Facility in the amount of $3.57 million and UNDP ($300,000). The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Transport in the period of 2022-2027. The part of the project financed by the Republic of Uzbekistan will amount to $25.57 million.
