Uzbekistan, Afghanistan hold negotiations on dev't of road transport to Pakistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 28. The Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Makhkamov, and the special representative of the President, Ismatulla Irgashev, visited Afghanistan to discuss the development of road transport to Pakistan in the period from August 26 through August 27, Trend reports.

An expedition along the road connecting Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan was held as part of this business trip. Officials from Uzbekistan investigated the situation on this road, the characteristics of the Salang Pass, which connects Kabul and Northern Afghanistan (Mazar-I-Sharif), as well as the operation of the Torkham border checkpoint on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, while Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada, the Minister of Civil Aviation and Transport of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, was also present.

During the bilateral negotiations, the issues of creating an international transport corridor for transit traffic through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the ports of the Indian Ocean were discussed. They also discussed plans to strengthen cooperation between the transport logistics enterprises of the two countries by providing favorable conditions for international road carriers, including lifting restrictions on transit through Afghanistan and facilitating the delivery of goods to various destinations.

In general, the meeting resulted in agreements on the mobilization of all available resources to promote the development of transit cargo transportation between the two countries.
