TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 19. Uzbekistan’s Uzsuvtaminot JSC, responsible for water supply, sewerage, and rational use of drinking water in the country, will introduce new doubled tariffs for drinking water supply and sanitation services in the Khorezm region from November 3, 2023, Trend reports.

As per data provided by Uzsuvtaminot, the level of centralized drinking water supply in the Khorezm region has reached 85.5 percent from 52.1 percent over the past five years.

“By the end of this year, it is planned to increase this figure to 90 percent,” the company noted.

Starting on November 3, new tariffs for drinking water in the region will amount to the following:

for the population: 2,800 soums (23 cents) per cubic meter (currently: 1,500 soums, or 12 cents).

for budgetary organizations and wholesale consumers: 5,700 soums (47 cents) per cubic meter (currently: 3,050 soums, or 29 cents).

Simultaneously, tariffs for sewage services will amount to the following:

for the population: 1,550 soums (13 cents) per cubic meter (currently: 800 soums, or 6 cents).

for budgetary organizations and wholesale consumers: 2,400 soums (20 cents) per cubic meter (currently, 1,300 soums, or 11 cents).

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Uzbekistan’s Tashkent plans to increase tariffs on water and sanitation services for citizens and businesses.

The Uzbek government explained the potential increase as a sharp rise in expenses in the water supply system of the country's capital.

Moreover, Uzbekistan is implementing full-scale measures to improve the efficiency of water use in the country. Over the past seven years, water-saving technologies have been implemented on an area of more than one million hectares, which is about a quarter of all irrigated land in the country.
