TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 8. Air Samarkand will start operating flights to the cities of Uzbekistan when the carrier's fleet exceeds 15 to 20 aircraft, Director of the airline Anton Khojayan said, Trend reports.

Air Samarkand's fleet of aircraft is geared for medium to long-haul flights, according to the company's director.

"At first, carrier will operate charter flights to Türkiye, and after obtaining operational permit, flights to Southeast Asia, China, South Korea and EU countries will begin," he said.

The company spokesperson stated that the aircraft that Air Samarkand is purchasing are intended for long-distance flights.

"Many companies are currently being formed for local airlines, such as Silkavia. Uzbekistan Airways recently purchased a LET L-410 aircraft. These aircraft are less expensive and have different resource requirements. "Airbus and Boeing aircraft have the resources to conduct international flights," claimed the head of Air Samarkand.

Air Samarkand commenced operations earlier this month, with the arrival of the first Airbus A330-300 aircraft at Samarkand International Airport.

Uzbekistan Airports JSC, which oversees all airports in Uzbekistan, and IP LLC Air Marakanda signed an agreement in September 2021 to modernize Samarkand Airport.

The project, worth more than $80 million, provides for the comprehensive development of the airport, the construction of airport infrastructure, as well as its operation.
