TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 19. Uzbekistan plans to increase the export of agricultural products from Surkhandarya to $150 million, Trend reports.
The news followed a meeting on the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, held in Termez under the chairmanship of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Under the planned project, Uzbekistan will allocate 100,000 hectares of land for broccoli, rosemary, thyme, mint, red basil and other export-oriented crops.
Moreover, 100 small workshops for drying, sorting and packaging of fruits and vegetables, as well as 70 refrigerating rooms, were commissioned to be built along the edges of the fields in 2024.
Additionally, it is planned to increase the area sown with fine-fiber cotton by 50,000 hectares, as well as launch a project to develop new varieties of it, which will require 15 percent less water for irrigation and ripens 12-15 days earlier than other varieties.
Meanwhile, during the 2nd Turkic Agro Business Forum in Baku, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov said that Uzbekistan is interested in attracting $50 billion of foreign investment in the agricultural sector of the country.
The minister noted that the textile industry, gardening, animal husbandry, seed production, and others are important and promising sectors in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan.
