TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, December 28. Uzsuvtaminot JSC, an Uzbek water supply company, will lay 562 kilometers of sewerage network throughout Uzbekistan, accompanied by the construction of nine new water treatment plants in 2024, Trend reports.
The news followed a recent briefing at Uzsuvtaminot, where the company announced its ambitious plans for the Uzbek water infrastructure redo.
The initiative is backed by a substantial financial allocation of $247 million. Moreover, Uzsuvtaminot aims to enhance drinking water supply and sanitation services in the upcoming year through various measures, which include the following:
replacement of 426 pumps with energy-efficient alternatives
installation of solar panels with a total capacity of 66 MW
acquisition of 160 units of specialized water equipment.
To support the implementation of the SCADA system, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is expected to contribute $125 million.
The company representatives noted that by the end of 2024, approximately 81 percent of the Uzbek population will have improved access to safe drinking water.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan has allocated 22 trillion Uzbek soums ($1.8 billion) from the state budget for the upgrade of the water management system from 2021 through 2023.
According to Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water Resources, Shavkat Khamrayev, it is planned to allocate another 1.7 trillion soums ($139.2 billion) and additional loans in the amount of $300 million from international financial organizations for the improvement of water management systems in 2024.
