TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 25. Uzbekistan intends to increase domestic gold processing, Trend reports.
This was announced during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to the Namangan region, where he visited the Gavhar Jewel Group enterprise in Yangi-Namangan district.
During the visit to the jewelry factory in the Namangan region, the President said that 100 tons of gold are extracted annually in Uzbekistan, but only 6 percent is processed. Additional conditions for the sphere are being created.
The enterprise, which opened in 2022, has mastered the production of 10,000 varieties of goods, such as high-quality gold watch cases. It is also possible to manufacture products to order using 3D modeling.
The factory is equipped with modern machinery from the USA, Germany, Italy, Türkiye and can manufacture up to 1,200 kilograms of precious metal products annually. At the same time, the actual production volume amounted to only 270 kilograms in 2023.
Meanwhile, according to the data from Uzbekistan's Statistics Agency, Uzbekistan exported nearly $1.3 billion worth of gold in February this year.
The share of gold in Uzbekistan's total exports totaled 36.3 percent from January through February 2024.
