TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 28. The number of bank cards in circulation in Uzbekistan amounted to 48.3 million as of April 2024, Trend reports.
According to data from the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU), this figure has increased by 32.3 percent year-on-year (36.5 million cards as of April 2023).
In addition, the number of issued bank cards reached 1.2 million in March 2024.
Meanwhile, the total volume of bank cards issued in Uzbekistan amounted to 46.2 million as of January 2024. This number is 35.4 percent more year-on-year (34.1 million as of January 2023).
At the same time, the volume of transactions in Uzbekistan conducted through POS terminals reached 71.6 trillion soums ($5.6 billion) as of April 2024. The recorded number reflects a 35.3 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, when the bank recorded 52.9 trillion soums ($4.1 billion) worth of transactions through POS terminals.
Uzbekistan is actively promoting contactless payment systems by popularizing NFC technology in sales and service points throughout the country and by taking measures to provide QR codes in accordance with the requirements of trade and service points throughout the country.
