TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 1. Uzbekistan has launched the construction of a gas chemical complex in its Karakul free economic zone, Trend reports.
According to the Uzbek president's office, the gas chemical complex will be the first plant in Uzbekistan to operate using methanol-to-olefins (MTO) technology.
The total amount of investment in the project will be $5 billion. The project will implement advanced technologies from the US, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Italy, and China.
Furthermore, the complex will process 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 430,000 tons of naphtha per year, resulting in the production of 1.1 million tons of polymer products. According to calculations, the added value of these products will exceed the cost of gas by five times.
Within the framework of the project, a total of 2,000 workplaces will be created. In addition, it will give impetus to the creation of dozens of enterprises in the construction, textile, leather, footwear, automotive, electrical, and other related industries and will lead to the creation of another 4,000 jobs.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan put into operation the Enpipe enterprise in the Karakul free economic zone (Bukhara region).
The project worth $58 million was implemented entirely at the expense of foreign investments. At the same time, the enterprise employs more than 400 people.
