Inter RAO likely to start lighting up Uzbekistan in fall

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, June 7. Russian Inter RAO may start supplying electricity to Uzbekistan in the fall, the company's board member Alexandra Panina told reporters, Trend reports.

She spoke on the sidelines of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2024.

"I think that by the fall, plans on the part of Kazakhstan will be worked out more specifically, concerning what volumes the country could let Russian electricity through for the Uzbek energy system,” she said.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan produced 27.9 billion kWh of electricity from January through April 2024. The production volume has increased by 7.3 percent compared to the same period last year (26 billion kWh in January–April 2023).

At the same time, in April 2024, the country’s electricity production amounted to 7.9 billion kWh (20 billion kWh in January–March 2024).

Furthermore, electric current trade turnover in Uzbekistan amounted to $111.6 million from January through April 2024. This figure has increased by 36.1 percent compared to the same period last year ($82 million).
