TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 18. Launching in the Fergana area, the first power storage facility in Uzbekistan was built under the direction of President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Trend reports.
Foreign investors will pour $144 million into the construction of Uzbekistan's first electricity storage system, which has a capacity of 150 megawatts, according to the Uzbek president's office.
The complex is being created in cooperation with the Chinese Gezhouba Group and will be launched by the end of this year. It will automatically turn on when electricity demand rises and ensure the stability of the power grid.
The demand for electricity in the country's economy is growing by an average of 6 percent per year. Therefore, renewable energy sources are being developed in Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan produced 31.1 billion kWh of electricity from January through May 2024. The production volume has decreased by 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year (31.5 billion kWh in January–May 2023).
At the same time, in May 2024, the country’s electricity production declined to 3.2 billion kWh, compared to 7.9 billion kWh in April 2024).
