SAMARKAND, Uzbekistan, September 26. Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have held discussions regarding the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Zarafshan River, Trend reports.
The meeting took place between Uzbekistan's Minister of Investments, Industry, and Trade Laziz Kudratov, and Tajikistan’s Chairman of the State Committee for Investment and State Property Management Sulton Rahimzoda during the ninth annual AIIB (Asian Development Bank) governors' meeting in Samarkand.
During the talks, the parties reviewed the progress of agreements made during the state visit of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Tajikistan in April this year.
They also addressed ways to enhance the activities of the joint Uzbek-Tajik investment company and agreed on several priority areas for collaborative project implementation with the involvement of the fund’s resources.
As a result of the negotiations, a framework for close cooperation was established to accelerate the implementation of the discussed projects and initiatives.
To note, the AIIB is holding its first-ever Central Asia Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors under the theme "Building Resilient Infrastructure for All" on September 25-26, 2024, in the city of Samarkand.
The two-day event will feature more than 25 panel discussions on innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience and sustainable development, and digital transformation of infrastructure projects.
