( DW ) - The US Congress has overwhelmingly approved tighter sanctions against Iran including blocking foreign investment in the country. Lawmakers who voted 397 for and 16 against the bill displayed rare bipartisan cooperation by expressing disapproval of increased aggression displayed by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his government. Meanwhile Iran's state-run newspaper " IRAN" has confirmed Iranian troops fired at Kurdish rebels near the border with Iraq. Earlier, the Iranian president was jeered at when he delivered a speech at New York's Columbia Universit where he defended his denial of the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly.
