Sporadic protests continue in the capital Tehran on Sunday, a day after election results indicated the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Press TV reported.

All three candidates have been incredulous of the margin of Ahmadinejad's lead, as declared by the Interior Ministry, which gave him some 62 percent of the votes, and only 33 percent to Mousavi.

They have voiced their concerns about the official results and have lodged complaints with the election supervising body the Guardian Council. Mousavi has rejected the declared results as a "charade".

Many of his supporters have taken to the streets to protest against what they called "theft" of a victory that they had seen as almost certain.

While Mousavi has backed his supporters' right to protests, he has at the same time emphasized that they should avoid violence and confrontation, while urging them to remain peaceful.

He has also applied for permission for a peaceful march by his supporters on Monday in central Tehran. There are no confirmed reports as to whether the authorities have agreed.
