Iran Materials 21 June 2009 13:46 (UTC +04:00)

Iran's foreign minister sharply criticised Britain and other Western countries on Sunday for their statements on the Islamic Republic's June 12 presidential election, Reuters reported.

In an address to foreign diplomats in Tehran broadcast live on state television, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki denounced what he described as "interfering remarks" by British officials regarding the vote.

He said Britain for a long time had "targeted elections" in Iran and suggested that people linked to British intelligence had travelled to the country prior to this month's election.

Mottaki also criticised France and Germany.
