Iran National Carpet Center plans to register the intellectual property of genuine Iranian handwoven carpets in a bid to prevent the supply of low-quality products under the renowned Iranian brands.

INCC Managing Director Morteza Faraji told IRIB in Shahrekord that the center will register genuine Iranian handmade carpets in national and international levels.

For the first time, registered Iranian-made carpets will be sold in Portugal, Spain, and France, the official added.

Iran produces some 5 million square meters of handmade carpets annually, of which 70 percent is exported, Faraji noted.

INCC has recently adopted special strategies to stop the negative influence of the global economic crisis on Iran's carpet exports.

Holding carpet festivals and exhibition in Iran and other countries is one of the strategies the center has adopted.

To this end, some related festivals and exhibition will be held in Brazil, Japan, South Africa, South Korea, Russia, and Spain during 2009.

The Persian carpet is an essential part of Persian art and culture. Carpet-weaving is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished manifestations of Persian culture and art, and dates back to ancient times.
