Abbas Qarib, the last surviving member of Iran's first national football team, has passed away at the age of 93, ending the first generation of football players in the country, Press TV reported.
Born in 1916, Qarib played in the first official match of Iran's national football team against Afghanistan in 1941.
He played as left wing defender in games against Afghanistan and India.
Qarib died on Wednesday, September 16, following weeks of hospitalization for broken pelvis.
