Iran's ambassador to Pakistan says the terrorist group Jundallah has not been behind the kidnapping of a senior Iranian diplomat in Peshawar last year, Press TV reported.

Heshmatollah Attarzadeh-Niyaki was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in an ambush on November 13, 2008, while on his way to the Iranian consulate in the Pakistani city of Peshawar. His driver was killed in the attack.

Addressing the issue, Iran's ambassador to Paksitan Mashallah Shakeri said that the country's intelligence forces rescued the Iranian diplomat on Tuesday.

"As a result of a successful operation by Iranian intelligence officials, Attarzadeh has been recovered safely from the custody of his captors," a Press TV correspondent in Islamabad quoted Shakeri as saying.

Shakeri refused to provide further details on the issue, but said that Iranian security forces secured the diplomat's release while in fact it was Pakistan's responsibility to rescue the Iranian envoy.
