MP Esmail Kosari says that the next round of talks between Iran and the 5+1 group will bear no fruit due to the West's double-standard approach toward the Islamic Republic, Tabnak reported.
Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France, and Germany) held talks in Geneva from December 6 to 7. The two sides agreed that the next round of talks will be held in late January in Istanbul.
Talking to the Mehr News Agency on Sunday, Kosari said, "Given the fact that the West is always seeking to push their plans forward through applying pressure and making threats, I do not suppose that the later round of talks, which will be held in Turkey, will bear any fruit."
"Unfortunately, representatives of Europe and the United States are applying a double-standard and hypocritical approach toward the Islamic Republic of Iran," added Kosari, who is the deputy chairman of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.
He also said that the representatives of the 5+1 group proved that they cannot logically justify their own statements and have no authority to make comments since they issued a statement at the end of the meeting which was different from what was agreed on.
In the Geneva talks, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili represented Iran and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton represented the countries of the 5+1 group, which also sent representatives to the meeting.
At the end of the talks, Ashton read out a statement, saying, "We and Iran agreed to a continuation of these talks in late January in Istanbul where we plan to discuss practical ideas and ways of cooperating toward resolution of our core concerns about the nuclear issue."
However, Jalili said, "Both sides have agreed that the talks will be about cooperation on common ground."
Whenever Western countries gain nothing from negotiations, they always resort to "telling lies" and "showing aggression" toward Iran to push their plans forward, Kosari stated.
