Mahmoud Ahmadinejad revealed Sunday that Bin Laden was in the hands of the US military forces long before being killed, IRNA reported.
He made the remarks in an address to the ongoing International Conference on Global Alliance Against Terrorism for a Just Peace.
The two-day event opened here Saturday with the participation of over 100 foreign experts and elites as well as 300 domestic scholars.
The President said that the US killed Bin Laden as a "publicity gesture" and in order to please and attract US public opinion.
"They killed those persons not for eradicating terrorist groups, but for winning the votes of American people," said the President.
He added that US former president George W. Bush had "invaded our region to save the US economy and win the votes of American people and the next president has also come to power following the same approach."
According to President Ahmadinejad the era of world arrogant and hegemonic system has come to an end.
Nations should be prepared to live in a world filled with justice, stressed the President.
A team of US Navy commandos assaulted bin Laden's secret compound by helicopter, killed the reportedly unarmed al-Qaeda chief after a firefight with other men in the house, and left with the body of the terrorist network's leader, who was quickly buried at sea.
