A pre-launch ceremony of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant will be held in Iran September 12, Novosti reported quoting Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.

"As to commissioning of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, opening ceremony of the object in Bushehr city, which is an evidence of the Iranian-Russian cooperation, is scheduled for September 12," Lukashevich said at a briefing in Moscow on Thursday.

Iran's only completed NPP, Bushehr, has supplied about 60 megawatt of electricity to the country's electric network since Sept. 4.

The construction of 1,000 megawatt-Bushehr NPP started in 1975 when Germany signed a contract with Iran. Germany was, however, pulled out of the project following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran signed a deal with Russia in 1995, under which the plant was originally scheduled to be completed in 1999, but the completion of the project was repeatedly delayed. The nuclear power plant was finally finished with the help of Russia following a three-decade delay.
