Considering the world's dire need for Iran's energy resources, imposing sanctions on the country's energy industry is like a joke, the National Iranian Gas Exports Company's managing director said.

"I think taking such measures will have more negative outcomes for those countries which have imposed sanctions. They will never practically come into effect, because they are rooted in political issues" Hossein Bidarmaghz told the ISNA news agency.

Their essential need for Iran's sources of energy will lead to such measures to failimg, Mr Bidarmaghz emphasised.

The United States, Britain and Canada announced new measures against Iran's energy and financial sectors on November 21, and France proposed new sanctions, including the freezing of Central Bank of Iran assets and suspending the purchase of Iranian oil.
