For the first time Iran will sweeten about 26 million cubic meters of sour gas per day at its Bid Boland 1 and Fajr Jam gas processing plants, IRNA quotes Deputy Oil Minister Javad Oji as saying.

Iran has spent 600 billion rials ($ 55 million) to construct additional two new gas lines and repair another to increase the sour gas transit from 18 million cubic meters to 26 million cubic meters for processing, Oji said.

Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Javad Oji added the early cold weather has increased Iran's consumption of natural gas to 500 million cubic meters per day, with almost all used by households and non-major industries.

According to the U.S Energy Information Administration statistics, Iran produces 147 billion cubic meters of gas and consumes 144 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
