Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov has said that Moscow seeks to maintain strong ties with the Islamic Republic, MNA reported.

Russia is satisfied with the current state of relations with the Islamic Republic and hopes to maintain friendly ties with Tehran after the March 2 parliamentary election in Iran, Riabkov told a press conference on Tuesday.

Commenting on the close relationship between the two countries, he said that Tehran and Moscow have been cooperating with each other in various spheres for many years.

There have been many ups and downs in the history of ties between the two countries, however the two sides have learned the lessons of history, the senior Russian diplomat said.

Commenting on the nuclear dispute between Iran and the West, he said, "We are confident that the issue will be resolved through political will."

He went on to say that his country spares no effort to help resolve the issue without harming Tehran-Moscow ties.
