The National Petrochemical Company of Iran will create a petrochemical unit complex dubbed "sulfur park," which aims to produce different derivates of sulfur in the vicinity of Hasheminejad Gas Refinery, northeast of the country.
The complex will be the first of its kind in the Middle East, the Pana News Agency reported.
Feasibility studies are underway, the report said, adding that seven production units are projected to be built in the complex.
Iran exported some $14 billion worth of petrochemical products to 60 countries last calendar year, which ended on March 19, said the National Petrochemical Company's managing director on April 18.
Abdolhossein Bayat said that $10.5 billion of oil income will be allocated to the development of the national petrochemical industry.
Iran has developed 69 plans to boost its petrochemical output from the past year's 54 million tons to 100 million tons in 2015.
Western Europe and China are the main recipients of Iran's petrochemical exports, followed by Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the Subcontinent, Africa and Latin America.
