Iran official: E-commerce to play key role in global trade

Trade is predicted to play a more important role in teh global GDP by 2020.

That makes it especially important for Iran to expand and keep its flow of foreign trade, said an official from Iran's Industry, Mines and Trade Ministry, the Mehr news agency reports.

Mohammad Zargar, an IT development and e-commerce advisor at the ministry made the observations as Iran is getting ready to host the first regional conference on facilitating e commerce.

The conference is for the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

Founded by Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, ECO is has 10 member nations.

The organization's goal is an Asian-Eurasian version of the European Union (EU), creating a single market through cooperation and shared goals. Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are other ECO members.

The upcoming conference is scheduled for May 23-25 on Kish Island in Iran's Persian Gulf.
