China is to send Iran the equipment and technology to build 15 waste incinerators.

The $300 million (USD) contract was signed by both countries' private sectors during Vice President Mohammad Javad Mohammadzadeh's visit to Beijing, the Islamic Republic News Agency reports.

The incinerators will be spread throughout Iran, with priority given to the coastal towns in the Mazandaran and Gilan Provinces which sit on the Caspian Sea and several metropolises said Ali Mohammad Shaeri, deputy director of Iran's Environment Protection Organisation (IEPO).

Work to install the incinerators is to be finished by 2014.

Every day Iran churns out 50,000 tonnes of waste which has to be destroyed and buried correctly to help preserve the environment.
