A number of Iranian newspapers have reported that house rents have risen by 50 percent compared to the past year.
Mardomsalari, Jomhouri Eslami and Tehran-e Emrooz dailies have quoted housing agencies and tenants as saying that rents have been increased by 50-60 percent.
Neither imperative nor encouraging policies have been successful in curbing the rent prices, according to the reports.
Meanwhile, a member of the Iranian High Council of Housing said last week that house rents have increased by 15-20 percent, the ISNA News Agency reported.
The rise in rents has been proportional to the inflation rate growth (22 percent), the official said.
"To control the housing prices, we should both increase supply and curb unofficial dealings," the official added.
