Enemies will fail to overthrow Syria's ruling regime, Deputy Chief of Staff in Mobilization Force and Defense Culture Affairs Brigadier Seyyed Mas'oud Jazayeri said, Fars reported.

Jazayeri noted that thus far neither "Friends of Syria" nor forces resisting Israel got involved in the Syrian issue. He added that if they do get involved, it will be a crushing blow to the enemy.

"I am surprised that some Arab countries believe if they stay allies with the U.S., they will be stable. If the U.S. was that strong and friendly with Egypt, Mubarak's regime would not have fallen," Jazayeri said.

Anti-government protests have continued in Syria for more than a year.

They turned into an armed struggle between the opposition and units of the power structures of the country. Reports about new armed incidents and victims appear on a regular basis.

This is despite the country having declared a truce since mid-April according to UN-Arab League special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan's plan.

According to UN, the total number of victims of the conflict in Syria has exceeded 12,000 people. About 230,000 people became refugees.
