Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed the Islamic Republic's opposition to any plan to impose a no-fly zone over Syria, describing it as interference in the domestic affairs of the Arab country, Press TV reported.

"This idea is a form of interference in Syria's domestic affairs and we naturally reject it," Salehi said in an interview with al-Manar TV on Wednesday.

He said that most of the countries that attended the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Mecca last week were against military interference in Syria and called for a domestic solution to the ongoing crisis.

He expressed hope that regional countries, especially the influential ones, would expand cooperation to find a Syria-Syria solution to the issue.

Commenting on the six-point plan proposed by Kofi Annan, outgoing UN-Arab League Joint Special Envoy on the Syrian crisis, Salehi said that the plan could still solve the crisis in Syria.

On August 11, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that Washington and Turkey were looking at measures to help overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, including a no-fly zone.

She said that the no-fly zone was a possible option, but added that the issue needed "greater in-depth analysis."

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.
