Afghanistan's president arrives in Azerbaijan for ECO summit

Afghanistan's president Hamid Karzai has arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Baku, the press office of Afghan's president told Trend.

Afghanistan's president Hamid Karzai has arrived in Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Baku, the press office of Afghan's president told Trend.

According to the press office, president Karzai will participate at the ECO summit, and make speeches there.

The summit will take place in Baku on October 16-17.

ECO is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey with the aim of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among member states.

The organization was expanded in 1992 to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Karzai will later fly to Kuwait, to participate in the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit. The president will be accompanied by other Afghan officials.

The ACD, an informal forum of foreign ministers from Asian countries, was established in 2002 in Thailand to enhance mutual cooperation in various sectors.
