Deputy Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard at Iran's Majlis (parliament) says he is sorry to see that nearly two million Iranian internet users have Facebook accounts, Qanun Newspaper reported.

Only in Tehran, some one million people use Facebook, he said.

Comparing the Iranian population with that in the US and China, the percentage of Facebook users in Iran is bigger than in other countries, Aboutorabi-Fard added.

Iran has blocked and demonized the social network as a "Zionist" instrument and a tool of "soft war" against the Islamic republic for this reason.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has also joined Facebook.

He first appeared on Facebook on December 13, linking to a story on his website about a recent meeting he held with university professors from around the Muslim world.
