Iran ranks 13th in the world in biotechnology advances

Iran ranked first in the region, and 13th in the world in terms of biotechnology advances, Fars news Agency reported, citing the deputy president in science and technology of Islamic Republic of Iran, Nasrin Soltankhah.

The report says that establishing of the first greenhouse of the transgenic plants in Iran and Middle East, production of Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) vaccine, creating two national supercomputers, are considered to be successful national scientific projects of Iran, achieved in the past four years.

"Pilot production of 1.5 million doses of IBD vaccine started in 2012 by Razi Vaccine and Serum Reseach Institute and then increased to 400 million doses and this solar year (March 21, 2013- March 21, 2014) will be reached up to 1 billion doses per year," Soltankhah said.

Iran's need for IBD vaccine is approximately 1.5- 2 billion doses per year.
